For over 20 years, the Instituto de Fisiología Celular at the UNAM has been considered one of the best basic research centers in Mexico in the fields of modern biological and biomedical science it specializes in. It has a select faculty of 40 senior researchers that work in two academic divisions: Neuroscience and Basic Science. Neuroscience division include majors in Cognitive Neuroscience, Neural Development & Physiology, Molecular Neuropathology. Possible majors for Basic Science division include Biochemistry & Structural Biology, Molecular Genetics, Cellular Biology & Development. Current laboratory facilities are in an area of 14,00 0 m2. Besides well-equipped laboratories, current facilities also include a specialized library and state of the art histology, molecular biology, computational, confocal and electron microscopy service units.
