Regulations

The investigators of our Institute require the supply of laboratory animals of the best possible quality for their research protocols. The Animal Facility is responsible of maintaining and reproducing laboratory animals to satisfy these needs. Our Animal Facility can be described as "Conventional of High Quality". It fulfills conditions of controlled environment, macro and ventilated housing systems as well as change stations for the adequate handling of animals free of specific pathogens (SPF). The annex building that harbors the Animal Facility has 1,500 m2 of construction and its facilities conform the characteristics established by the Official Mexican Norm NOM 062-ZOO-1999, Technical Specifications for the Production, Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.

Species, races, lines, and animals genetically modified that are reproduced and/or maintained at present in the Animal Facility.

Heterozygous Rats

  • Wistar Rat CRL-WI
  • Long Evans Rat CRL-HIM

Homozygous Rats

  • SHR-CRL
  • WKY-CRL

The Animal Facility has the space and resources required for the generation of transgenic mice designed specifically for the projects of investigation of the Institute. The unit also has an area of Vivarium that is located in the Biophysics and Neurosciences Building, which houses rodents in experimental phase.

The Animal Facility-Vivarium has a staff of 11 specialized technicians and two Veterinarians certified in laboratory animal science.

The Manager for the Animal Facility is the Veterinary Doctor, Claudia V. Rivera Cerecedo
